Candidate for re-election for
Chouteau Township Highway Commissioner
(618) 931-4557

Don Harris has been married to his wife Linda for 43 years. They have three children, eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild. They have resided in Chouteau Township since 1979.

Don served 9 1/2 years in the Marine Corps at which time he retired on a medical discharge. After he left the Marine Corps, he worked for four years in the U. S. Postal Service, followed by three years in a sales position. He was then hired into the marketing division of Shell Oil Co. in Evansville, Indiana. In April of 1977 he relocated to the Wood River location until his retirement in 1994.

Don attended Memphis State and the University of North Carolina, as well as the Indiana State University.

In January of 2005 he was nominated and appointed byu the Chouteau Township board to fill the remaining term of Mr. Dudley Lubbert who passed away unexpectedly. In April of 2005, Don ran for his first elected office as Highway Commissioner. Don enjoyed the backing of so many kind people.

Don has continuously addressed the concerns over the past four years of the appearance of the buildings, grounds and equipment. Don has also successfully upgraded equipment and addressed all safety concerns.

Don is also a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans organization.

I want to thank all the Chouteau Citizens for the opportunity to serve since my appointment in January 2005. Having entered this job during the flooding, we have endeavoured to clear up problems where possible by working with other Townships and the County, and still continue to address this as an ongoing problem. The very recent deluge of rain fall has once again proved that littering is a great contributor to drainage ditches overflowing. There has been ongoing efforts to address serious personnel safety concerns within and around the Garage area. New lighting, electrical outlets and hard piped air lines have been installed. The Garage doors and other equipment have been painted. It is expected this will extend the life of some of the Townships property by many years. It has paid off and is a much safer working environment for the employees. We have also upgraded some trucks.

We provide an Annual Spring Clean-up in April and Annual Fall Clean-up in October. Watch for dates and times.

Please call the Garage to schedule an appointment at 618 931-6333.
