Vi Taylor moved from San Diego, California to Mitchell in 1989 with her husband Jim. She was a Navy wife for almost 30 years. While her husband was on various ships and commands, she volunteered and served as a liaison and as an ombudsman to help promote morale among the wives and families of the ships crew/command. While the children were growning up, she was avtive in the school's PTA, in addition, she was a Brownie Leader. She also volunteered as a teacher's aide to assist young students in reading.

She currently is serving as Chouteau Township Tax Collector and belongs to various Veterans Auxilliaries where she holds differen offices of leadership. Currently she is the Treasurer for the American Legion Unit 113 in Granite City and is also the Madison-Bond County Council Auxilliary President of the American Legion. In 2006, she received "The President's Volunteer Service Award."
