as Township Clerk

Barbara and her husband Jerry have resided in Chouteau Township for 43 years. They have raised their two children here. Barb and Jerry also have four grandchildren they cherish and adore.

Barbara has wrote numerous grants to hep Chouteau Township such as, getting the Township Hall brought up Americans with Disabilities Act standards, expanding the hall for a new kitchen and storage, Chouteau Township Park and Fitness Trail, playground and park benches and the outdoor Chouteau Township marquee sign. And she has successfully initiated programs for the History of Chouteau Township booklet, the Coat Closet Program - new and used coats for needy residents for the past 6 years as well as the Think Green plants for the needy.

Barbara has received awards for Government Achievement from East-West Gateway Coordinating Council in recognition for her time, work, personal commitment and devotion to the betterment of our region, as well as Hometown Leadership Award - Great Flood - Chouteau Island.

Barbara A. Overton has been the Township Clerk for nearly 16 years and these are a few of the public services that she supplies:

  • Notary Public - This service is offered at no charge. There are two other Notaries in the office.

  • Voter's Registration - If residents need to register, you will need a photo ID or if you have a change of address, bring an envelope with bill/letter sent to your current address.

  • Marriage License - The cost is $ 30.00 cash and a photo ID is required. Both prospective bride and groom must appear before the clerk at the time of application. Call the Clerk for an appointment at 558-9452.
  • Freedom of Information - If residents need a copy of a Township record, they will need to fill out a request form. There is a charge of 10 cents per page.
  • Absentee Voting - If you are a registered voter and are going to be out of the County on Election Day, you can contact the Clerks Office and the procedure will be explained to you. Pre-voting March 16 - April 2, 2009.
  • Annual Coat Closet - Each year in September the Clerk asks for donations of new and gently used coats from the public that will be given to needy families within Chouteau Township. The coats can be brought to the Clerks office from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • Annual Township Meeting is April 14, 2009 at 7 p.m.
  • Think Green - vegetable bedding plants distributed free to needy families.
